2026 / 2027 courses season is open
Adult learning principles in digital environments
Digital technologies and AI are transforming how adults learn, collaborate, and access knowledge. For educators, this means rethinking not only the tools we use, but also the principles that guide how we design learning experiences. We explore the foundations of digital andragogy, helping adult educators design learning that is relevant, engaging, and effective in digital environments. You will examine how adults learn, how to analyse learning needs, and how to translate these insights into structured, modular and micro-learning formats suitable for online and blended contexts. The programme is highly practical: all design work takes place during the sessions, allowing participants to immediately apply concepts to their own teaching contexts. By the end of the programme, you will have developed a clearer framework for designing digital learning for adults and a set of practical strategies you can implement directly in your courses.

What we explore together
Core principles of digital andragogy
Analysing adult learners’ needs, motivations, and prior experience
Designing modular and micro-learning structures for digital environments
Selecting appropriate methods, tools, and interaction formats
Using AI as a thinking partner to explore alternatives, challenge assumptions, and test design ideas
Reflecting on and evaluating one’s own digital teaching practice
What you leave with
A draft design or redesign of a digital learning module or course
Practical templates for modular and micro-learning design
Methods for analysing adult learning needs in digital contexts
Strategies for integrating AI as a reflective support tool in course design
Greater clarity and confidence in designing digital learning for adults
Who this journey is for
A practical, learning-by-doing programme for educators who want to design effective learning for adults in digital environments but are unsure how to translate andragogical principles into concrete teaching practice, namely:
Adult educators and trainers working in online or blended environments
Higher education teachers developing digital or hybrid courses
Training professionals designing modular or micro-learning programmes
Educators interested in using AI as a reflective thinking partner in course design
Duration
Typically 20 hours (5 days × 4 hours/day)
